"Tsiknopempti"

hey hey hello everybody! Today in Cyprus and Greece and Greeks Worldwide are celebrating "Tsiknopempti" which translates into "Eating Meat Thursday" :) hmmm I know this sounds yum (I apologise to all my vegan friends truly xx please forgive me but this is a tradition and custom). Traditionally in Cyprus, we make "SOUVLA" and for those who don't know what it is, its pieces of meat strung on a long pitch, on charcoal which keeps turning, helping the meat cook, and this is done on a "FOUKOU" - a metal dish with poles mainly made out of steel, where the charcoal is placed in. This is always an outside fun day and night!! All types of meat are cooked, mostly chicken, pork and lamb and in all sorts of ways, but the best part is of course the Souvla :). And this brings us to our Greek Orthodox Lent from Green Monday on, so a lot of people will be fasting for the next few weeks leading up to Easter.

Loukaniko (Traditional Cypriot Sausage) & Halloumi (Goat Cheese) cooked on the BBQ:

Traditional Shieftalies, Souvlakia & Chops:

And today, OFFICIALLY the CARNIVAL Celebrations begin in CYPRUS!!!!!!!! My town LIMASSOL is the highlight of the carnival!! More on that in the following days when the real parties begin :) bye for now honeys, its time to get ready for the "souvla night" :)

so keep smiling and shining!
